Pendant Lighting : plug-in
Plug In pendant lighting is fast becoming a popular choice in Australia for their pendant lighting needs. Essentially instead of hard wiring a pendant into roof through a ceiling rose a plug is added to the end of the fabric cable to plug into a mains point.
Why choose plug-in pendant lighting?
This style of pendant lighting is very popular because of its cost effectiveness and versatility. If a pendant can be plugged in it can be moved around a space to where its best needed. Or if you decided to move to a new house or business location the lighting can move with you and thus be a cost saving process. Also, if furniture is moved around your lighting can move around with it! If you so wish to move your dining table you don’t want its lighting to be fixed into the old position.
What do I need to create my plug-in pendant light?
The plug-in version of your pendant light is almost exactly like ‘normal’ ceiling hard-wired pendants. In designing your pendant firstly choose the fabric cable type and length, the lamp holder, the bulb and the shade if you are using one. This makes up the basis of your pendant lighting. To make it a plug in light simply add a plug instead of a ceiling rose. In addition to this you may want to look at a switch, a dimmer, a wall hook, a decentraliser and wall leads. No doubt your pendant will be plugged in at ground level and run upwards to be suspended from the ceiling. Switches can be added at the exact height you require to turn your light on and off. These include foot switches making it easier for some. A wall lead will secure your cable to the wall if this is what you would prefer. It’s not a necessity however it can keep it very tidy. Hook pendants over wall hooks or use a small decentraliser on the ceiling to hang the pendant in the exact position you need. With our huge range of electrical components, the possibilities are almost endless with what you can design.
